Connectivity: New Explorations
Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert
Takemura brings a strong conceptual approach grounded in mind-body dualism, cognitive illusion, memory and connectivity to highly technical, aesthetically brilliant glass sculptures and significant new works. Takemura’s glass vessels are masterful in their execution with precision of cutting, grinding and polishing. Tension is created by Takemura’s seemingly improbable forms as he finds the balance between cutting and tapering the vessels while maintaining their structural integrity. The resulting tension is balanced by their exquisitely ethereal presence - made in clear glass, the vessels are simultaneously visible and transparent.
In a new direction, Takemura employs a similar process of cutting, grinding and tapering the form to boldly replicate his glass vessels from a solid block of marble. Again, the vessel is referenced in a new optic fibre work as gently lit fibre optics are used to express connectivity in a digital age.
Connectivity also debuts a new body of work in dichroic glass, including a major suspended piece and a series based on the mask. Takemura utilises the characteristics of dichroic glass with its transparent and reflective properties and its brilliant display of colour to create highly convertible, iridescent, jewel-like objects.
Takemura has exhibited in group and solo shows nationally and across Europe, Asia and the USA. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, and his work is held in private collections world-wide.
